Fertilization Plans
Professional lawn fertilization and pest control (weeds and insects) plans based on your individual soil test results and lawn conditions.

Unlike many providers who often use low-quality, high-nitrogen fertilizers and identical herbicide mix for their entire route, we take an individual approach based on your lawn and soil conditions and only use top grade products.
In many cases, the minimal recommended plan for 10,000 sq ft of Bermuda or Zoysia in Texas Hill Country would include:
-
Early spring application of 36 lbs of 10-10-10 fast release fertilizer with micronutrients and iron to feed the soil after the nutrients were leached during the winter and to enable early lawn green-up.
-
Early spring application of pre-emergent herbicide which will block emergence of the majority of warm-season weeds; this is a much more effective and cheaper method then spot treating weeds after they emerge.
-
Application of 36 lbs of 16-4-8 slow release fertilizer with micronutrients and iron every 6-8 weeks until early winter when the lawn starts going dormant. We perform soil tests twice a year for all clients to ensure the fertilizer NPK (nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium) ratio is optimal for their lawn.
-
Early fall application of granular double-kill insecticide which works both in the thatch layer (kills army-worms, as well as fire ants, ticks, etc.) and in the root layer to kill grubs (i.e. if you notice ½ inch diameter holes in your yard - this is from armadillos digging for grubs in your lawn; those grubs are eating your grass roots and killing your lawn).
For a bit more than bare essentials, we also recommend, roughly in order of importance:
-
Soil amendment with humic acid, biochar, and mycorrhizal fungi (see our Soil Amendment page).
-
Spot treatment of warm-season weeds that do break through spring pre-emergent herbicide.
-
Spring application of double-kill insecticide to take care of any grubs, and perhaps more importantly other unwanted insects (ticks, fire ants, centipedes, etc.).
-
Late fall application of pre-emergent herbicide to take care of cold-season weeds (these are annual weeds that will die off as warm weather moves in, but are somewhat unsightly in dormant winter lawn).
