Lawn Renovation and Soil Amendment

Soil health is the cornerstone of a healthy lawn, it increases cation-exchange capacity, reduces fertilization needs, and improves water penetration and retention.

Lying in the Grass

Healthy lawn starts with a healthy soil, but north Austin soils usually start with a significant disadvantage:

  • Our soils are generally alkaline, hard packed clay, with minimal carbon or other organic matter

  • Builders and landscapers often add only a couple of inches of low-quality topsoil which isn’t conductive for deep root establishment or proper water retention and drainage

  • Many of our lawns in Hill Country are on a slope which increases fertilizer and nutrient wash-out and soil erosion

We rely on our experience and on regular soil tests to provide a full range of soil amendment services, from lawn aeration to adding biochar, humic acid, organic matter, and mycorrhizal fungi to your soil. We do pH adjustments, although we often recommend against adding straight sulfur to alkaline soils due to long-term ineffectiveness and often prefer black gypsum.

Our team is expert in lawn renovation, and no matter how dead or overgrown with weeds your sodded lawn looks, we are happy to take a look and provide a no-strings-attached advice or estimate.
